Nashoba Brook: Carlisle, MA
Tucked away within a heavily wooded forest dotted with granite outcroppings lies a welcoming home and its accompanying barn. Perched on the highest point overlooking a valley and intermittent stream, the residence reveals itself as a quiet surprise to those who traverse the long, meandering driveway that winds through the trees and crosses the wetlands below.
Echoing the granite formations that shape the landscape and retain the earth over time, the house is nestled into the hillside—creating a sheltered, single-story landscaped courtyard on one side and a two-story elevation on the entry side.
A collection of vernacular-inspired buildings, each defined by its own program, are connected by glass breezeways that both separate and unite the structures. These transparent links emphasize the individuality of each volume while framing views outward to the surrounding forest.
